KuLift™ (thread lift)

what is the KuLift™...

The KuLift™ is Dr Gordon Ku’s signature thread-lifting method for mid- to lower-facialrejuvenation. It is designed to lift and support facial tissues that have started to descend over time, helping restore a more refreshed, defined facial shape.

The KuLift™ often uses multiple threads, and in some patients, it may be paired with a collagen stimulator to support overall rejuvenation and ongoing refinement as the skin heals. Results vary between individuals, and suitability is confirmed through clinical assessment.

concerns the KuLift™ can address ...

Everyone’s anatomy is different; an assessment is the best way to confirm what the KuLift™ can realistically achieve for your facial structure and skin quality. The KuLift™ may be considered if you’re concerned about:

  • Mid-face and lower-face heaviness or droop that changes facial shape over time
  • Early jowling or loss of jawline definition
  • A tired or “pulled down” look through the lower face
  • Marionette lines and nasolabial folds, where these are influenced by tissue descent (KuLift may help by lifting and supporting the area, which can soften their appearance, but it won’t erase deep lines in every case)

benefits of the KuLift™...

The KuLift™ is often chosen for its complete mid-lower facial rejuvenation, rather than focusing on one single line or one isolated area. Potential benefits may include:

  • Overall, mid to lower face rejuvenation with a lifted, more supported contour
  • Improved lower-face definition while maintaining natural facial balance
  • A treatment plan tailored to your features using a multi-thread approach
  • In some patients, a gradual collagen response that can support skin quality and refinement over time (results vary)

am I a suitable candidate ...

If laxity is more advanced, other options may be more appropriate. Your suitability is confirmed through assessment, where expected outcomes and limitations are discussed clearly. You may be a suitable candidate for the KuLift™ if:

  • You want facial rejuvenation focused on the mid to lower face
  • You have mild to moderate laxity and want a non-surgical option
  • You have reasonably good skin quality and realistic expectations
  • You understand that results vary and are influenced by anatomy, skin elasticity, and ageing
  • You are noticing mild to moderate facial ageing in the mid and lower face
  • You are bothered by heaviness around the mouth, marionettes, and nasolabial folds
  • You would like more jawline definition without a surgical facelift or neck lift
  • You are looking for less downtime as opposed to a surgical facelift/neck lift

The KuLift™ begins with a consultation and facial assessment with Dr Gordon Ku to confirm suitability, discuss your goals, and outline realistic outcomes. If you’re suitable and wish to proceed, the procedure is then booked for a later date.

On the day, the treatment area is planned and marked. Threads are carefully placed under the skin in a structured pattern designed to lift, support, and reposition soft tissue in the mid to lower face. The aim is a refreshed contour while maintaining facial harmony.

In some patients, Dr Ku may pair the KuLift™ with a collagen stimulator to support overall rejuvenation and refinement over time. This is personalised and depends on your anatomy, goals, and assessment.

Yes, you will require a GP referral. As of 1 July 2023, AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) requires all patients to obtain a referral from a GP (General Practitioner).

Recovery varies between individuals. You may experience swelling, bruising, tightness, or tenderness while the area settles.

Many patients plan for a short ‘social downtime’ of around 2–3 days, where you may prefer to keep plans light while early swelling or bruising is most noticeable. During this time, gentle daily activities are usually fine, but it’s generally best to avoid heavy exercise, saunas/steam rooms, and anything that involves rubbing, massaging, or putting pressure on the treated areas.

Over the next 1–2 weeks, most swelling and bruising typically continue to settle, and many people feel comfortable returning to normal routines, including work and everyday activities. The threads and tissue can continue to stabilise over the following weeks, so your aftercare instructions may include avoiding strenuous training and facial manipulation for a period recommended by Dr Gordon Ku.

As with any procedure, a Thread Lift involves potential risks. During your consultation, your practitioner will discuss possible risks and complications as part of the informed consent process. Visit our Risks and Complications page for more information. Risks and complications can include, but are not limited to swelling, bruising, tenderness, temporary unevenness or dimpling, asymmetry, infection, and (less commonly) thread visibility or extrusion. Your individual risks and aftercare guidance are discussed so you can make an informed decision.

KuLift™ fees vary depending on your personalised plan, including the number of threads used and whether a collagen stimulator is included. A written quote is provided after your assessment.

The KuLift™ is typically performed for cosmetic reasons, which means Medicare rebates are not usually available.

FAQs ...

The KuLift™ is designed for mid to lower facial rejuvenation, often focusing on improving cheek support, lower-face heaviness, and jawline definition where suitable.

It may help soften marionette lines if they’re related to tissue descent, because lifting and supporting the lower face can reduce the ‘pull-down’ effect. Results vary, and deep static lines may not fully resolve with threads alone.

It may improve the appearance of nasolabial folds in some patients by supporting mid-face tissues. The degree of improvement depends on your anatomy and how much of the fold is driven by volume loss versus skin creasing.

No. The KuLift™ is generally suited to mild to moderate laxity and a more subtle lift. A facelift is a different procedure intended for more significant laxity and a different level of change.

Many people return to desk-based work relatively quickly, but bruising or swelling may be visible for several days. If you have an important event, it’s sensible to plan and allow a buffer.

The goal is a refreshed, naturally supported look rather than an overcorrected result. Individual outcomes vary, and the plan is tailored to maintain facial balance.

Results commonly last around 1 to 3 years, but longevity varies based on skin quality, anatomy, ageing, and lifestyle factors.

A multi-thread plan is designed to support overall rejuvenation by improving lift and structural support across the mid to lower face. The number and placement pattern are tailored to your features and goals.

Thread quality and technique can matter for consistency, support, and how the result holds over time. Even with high-quality threads, longevity and outcomes still vary based on your anatomy, skin elasticity, and ageing.
